Ideas

Don’t know where to Start?

Here are some ideas!

If you have more good ideas, use the comments box at the end of this page to add to our list!

Unexpected Gifts

  • Buy a packet of nuts, some cereal, and a few chocolates from the supermarket; and drop them in the ‘collections’ box of a homeless person
  • Buy some ’scratchies’ and carry them with you to give to people that would not expect it (the guy at the supermarket checkout that looks like he has had a long day; the girl that just got of the phone with an angry customer, etc)
  • Order some ‘Get-Out-Of-Hell-Free‘ cards and have them available for people that look like they need a break in their day

Acts of Kindness

  • Find the nearest home for aged care; then pay them a visit and offer to spend an hour or two with someone who doesn’t get many visitors. Talk, play chess, or do anything this person finds entertaining.
  • Think of the people you work with that make a difference to your day, and give them a card to say ‘Thank You’ for their efforts.
  • Offer your seat on the train/bus to someone else; even if the person is younger or fitter
  • Recognise things you’re good at, and keep an eye around for people that may need some help with that. It may be making a dinner for a friend who is going through rough times; helping your coworker fix her computer after her 12-year old broke it; or carry that heavy suitcase for the lady that looks like she’s struggling as she tries to get out of the bus.

Give a book to an underprivileged child and encourage him/her to read.

I would like to contribute with an idea that has worked wonders for me and is also kind of “contagious”. When someone in a group of people starts criticising someone else who at the time is not present , some people simply listen to what is being said, while others rejoice adding more information and judgements to demerit the person who is being attacked. If ONE inthe group suggests something positive about the victim of gossip ( saying the information could be wrong or stating that on the other hand this person has important virtues or assets), those who have been listening will be prone to believe the positive message, and probably the attackers will at least stop the gossip. And this situation keeps coming up in everyday life, at work, in social meetings and within families, giving us the chance to be good to someone, even if he/she never finds out what we did for him/her.

    Peace be upon you.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I promise I’ll get working with those small drops of kindness. May be if all of us take such an oath, there would have been an ocean of kindness by now.
